SAN DIEGO DESIGN WEEK 2020

Claro Coffee is a third wave coffee shop focusing on coffee that is rich and smooth, clean and flavorful. Named for Claro Walnut, the type of wood used heavily in the shop’s design, it’s located in the industrial Morena District. Along with the owners of Claro and Made Lumber Supply, who did the build-out, Megan will be doing a guided tour of the project and discussing the inspiration behind the design, which was heavily influenced by George Nakashima's Pennsylvania home and studio and highlights the natural beauty and significance of Claro Walnut. Claro Coffee Behind the ProjectDesigned by Interior Designer, Megan Georgopoulos, Claro Coffee is a handsome hand-built coffee shop in the Moreno District of San Diego. The inspiration was pulled from George Nakashima’s philosophy of embracing the natural character of wood. It was important to highlight the beauty of Claro Walnut figuring and color and allow it to give a rustic warmth to the space. Megan worked very closely with the local wood shop, Made Lumber, on the completely custom build out. This project is featured in San Diego Design Week 2020. Video by Chris Park.
